The story of boxer Micky Ward's battle to his first title fight, and his half brother, Dickie Ecklund's, battle with crack addiction (sort of).
I've seen this twice and can't say enough good things about this movie. The actors are great, the characters are great, love the story lines. Went with the girls two weeks ago, and with SU today.
Even if you don't care much for boxing, crack or Lowell, MA, I highly recommend this movie. hahaha

I want to see it but am worried about those fake boston accents.
Watched The Town and had to leave the room, it was driving me
crazy how bad the accents are !

Well... hmmm... I know what you mean. I thought they did ok with the accents. Mark taught the others well. Amy Adams does switch over from a Lowell to a Revere once in a while, but all in all, it wasn't painful to listen to.![]()

Saw it about 3 weeks ago and thought it was fantastic. I didn't have a problem with accent....but then I don't know a fake/real Boston accent........I'm aussie LOL
Coming to dvd real soon....top of my list at the moment
in the arena ( no pun intended ) of sports movies, boxing movies are by far the best
Body and Soul, Requiem for a Heavyweight, The Champ, Raging Bull, City for Conquest,
The Harder They Fall, Million Dollar Baby.
My son was on the set of the movie (Mickey Ward and Mark Wahlberg are family friends) and he also went to the movie premiere with them. He said the movie was incredible, but I haven't seen it yet. Can't wait though!!

Just watched it last night. It was much better than I expected. (I think Mark Wahlberg is adorable, but I think his brother Donny got the acting chops) The story was fantastic. Watching Dickie Eklund....sorry, watching Christian Bale play Dickie Eklund was amazing. The energy level in that ticking time bomb...you just kept waiting for it to go off. And Amy Adams. I adore her. She says so much with her eyes.
But what is up with the harpy harem of psychotic sisters in the Eklund-Ward family? I haven't seen my husband look that scared during a movie as when those women descended upon poor Amy Adams house!
Great story of redemption for both brothers. Really enjoyed it.
