Well, I read that in two days. Could not put it down. What did you think?
I'm not going to post the reader's group questions...everyone just post what you thought of the book.

looking forward to it; will probably start it next week!![]()
I also couldn't put it down ... it is amazing that anyone could survive that childhood. And it was a revelation to me that people living like that could be choosing to do so. Although most people would consider that the parents' behaviour was abusive, the writer makes it clear that her parents loved her, and wrote the book in such as way as to clearly demonstrate that her parents thought that their way was a much better way of raising children.
I couldn't put it down either, it was a great read. I loved the author's voice through the book, that's what really kept me captivated. I couldn't believe that was a true story, and I could never imagine having to grow up like that. But she had to grow up fast and learned the ways of the world quickly with a childhood like that. I enjoyed reading that her and her 2 siblings ended up good, strong people after surviving that type of childhood. You can tell she loves her parents, but thinks they could do much better with the little they've got. You really see that the children were forced to be the grownups in the family, while the parents didn't really act as parents should...Considering they barely kept a roof over the family's head.

i'm about halfway through and although i'm enjoying it, it's not a "can't put it down book" for me.
maybe because i knew some people who lived this poorly when i was a kid. not quite as "escentric" though!
off to the second half!
finished it. i listened to it on audio and it was read by the author. really enjoyed her voice reading.
it's sad because so many people in the appalachains still live that way and by no real fault of their own. her parents were a tad different; to say the least! glad that she overcame so many obstables and went SO FAR with her life!
if you are so inclined to make donations to people in need; check out the children of the appalachains; it will tug on your heart for sure.
