Starring Emily Blunt and Miranda Richardson.
Young Victoria is ruled by a controlling mother and her companion, John Conroy. She is allowed to see no one, go nowhere and her only friend is a cute little dog named Dash. As the young heir to the throne of England, her mother and Sir Conroy are trying to manipulate her into signing documents setting up a regency if the king were to die before she turns 18…allowing them to control the throne. However, King William declares he will live till after she turns 18 and does…therefore allowing Victoria to ascend to the throne of England without the dreaded regency. A young prince Albert, coached to be her fiancé, does in fact fall in love with her and the two form a strong friendship. However, the now free Queen Victoria wants some time to rule alone and gain some independence after such a constrictive youth. However, she chooses her counsel poorly and political scandal rocks the country. The Queen realizes she needs Albert by her side and he returns to Buckingham Palace and the two marry. Albert must find his place as the “consort” to the Queen and the Queen must learn to help Albert become her partner in the monarchy.
Beautifully acted, the cinematography, set design, costumes…all ravishing.
Highly recommend.
