Starring Woody Harrelson & Ben Foster. Will Montgomery just got back from serving in Iraq with an injury to his eye and leg. He is now considered a war hero, but his injuries keep him from active duty. So he is teamed up with Woody Harrelson for death notification duty. Yup. He and Tony Stone (Woody) are the two uniformed soldiers who show up at the door to notify next of kin that their loved one has died. Stone is rigid about the procedure and trains Montgomery. There aren’t a lot of notification scenes in the movie, but each and every one of them is wrenching. Montgomery feels a connection with one of the widows they notify and begins a friendship with her. Meanwhile he’s dealing with his ex-girlfriend who is getting married. And adjusting to being home.

I’ve seen this Ben Foster in some other things…he’s a good actor. Woody’s playing another badass, just in uniform. Not a particularly complicated story and it is not really picking a view on the war or the military machine…just giving you the story of a job that not a lot of people know about the type of guys who get picked to do it and how it is done.

Good rental.

3 Stars.
