Last night we showed "Ratatouille" at our monthly First Wednesday's "Great Films at the Cathedral" series. We'd had 2 foreign B&W films from the '50s ("M. Hulot's Holiday," "Rashomon") so thought it best to update to a USA choice in color and the 21st century.
It's animated (Pixar) and listed among Roger Ebert's Greatest Films and is currently rated, IIRC, #167 of IMDb's top 250 of all time (#10 of their best animated films) and rated 8.2 of 10 by viewers. It won the Oscar for Best Animated Film in 2008.
It was an interesting story with superb choice of voices for the characters.
A rat (Remy) with an excellent taste for food (and a devoted follower of a deceased famous French chef) finds himself accidentally in that chef's restaurant. About the same time, a young boy (Linguini) with no cooking skill is hired to mop the floors.
The two join forces, of course, Remy hidden from view under Linguini's chef's hat and pulling all the strings (Linguini's hair) to direct him.
A fun show for adults and kids.
While Pixar's animated films are good ("Toy Story," etc.) my own taste much prefers the animé of Miyazaki's films such as "Kiki's Delivery Service" (my especial favorite), "Spirited Away" and "Howl's Moving Castle," etc.
