In a word...TERRIBLE!
It has to be one of the worst films I have seen in a while. They could have done lots of great things with the story but instead they seemed to be scrabbling to find a story line at all. I am not sure what was worse....the women talking about a boob job half way through OR the film ending on the bombshell that the little girl no longer needs training pants. Yes, believe it or not I am still talking about this film!
And, just to top it off the visual effects were not that great. I am so glad I did not pay to see it at the movies and only wish I had waited for my free coupon before renting it on DVD.
If you have not watched this already I highly recommend saving your $5 for another rental!
A solid 0 out of 10.
I did see it. For John Cusack only. Utterly ridiculous. And unbelievably loooonnnngggg. Why did it need to be 2 1/2 hours long? Special effects were so over the top. Though I did find the scene driving through CA when the ground was falling out underneath them kind of upsetting.
Totally absurd.

Well, Dave, you've got plenty of company -- almost 7% of the voters share your view.

Remind me NOT to go to that website for a good review!
I looked up some of my own - this is more like it!!...(Even included an Aussie review for Garth!).
2012 : Review : Rolling StoneBeware 2012, which works the dubious miracle of almost matching Transformers 2 for sheer, cynical, mind-numbing, time-wasting, money-draining, soul-sucking stupidity. We probably are nearing the end of the movie world when it's easy to predict that the biggest turd in the bowl will rise to the top of the box office. Equally depressing is the pass some critics are giving to this 158 minute (you heard me!) slog through every end-of-days cliché in the Hollywood playbook.
2012 AU Review - Movies Review at IGNAustralia, November 2, 2009 - We haven't laughed so hard in a long time. The latest global disaster movie from director Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow) throws so much stupidity at you in such rapid succession that it's practically a torrential cliché-maelstrom; the kind of bloated, silly cinematic disaster that is so unintentionally hilarious that actually flips over and becomes a redeeming factor.
2012 Review - Screen RantShort Version: If you’re looking for some wicked-cool visuals and destruction on a scale that even Emmerich has never put on screen before, then 2012 is for you. Plot and character development? Move along, nothing to see here

Actually, The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) is a GREAT place to get a review. It's the wikipedia of films with everything you want to know about directors, actors, screen writers, locations, etc. , for any and every thing to do with films. They have a link for all external reviews to movies so you can see what Ebert, The NYT, The NYer, Slate, Rotten Tomatoes, etc., said.Remind me NOT to go to that website for a good review!
And 6.0 isn't that great a rating. I'd be suspicious enough of any movie rated that low that I'd surely read some of the user comments to see what they reacted to before seeing it.
Here's their link to the external reviews of 201: 2012 (2009/I) - External reviews
Roger Ebert gave it zero of 4 stars, saying in essence, for people who like this sort of film, this is the sort of film those people will like. (I'm paraphrasing a book review by A. Lincoln but it fits.)
The "Rolling Stones" reviewer had your (Dave's) view: 2012 : Review : Rolling Stone

I really wanted to like this movie but almost every scene I was laughing because it was so ridiculous. And by the end I predicted every move.![]()
