Starring Ricky Gervais and Jennifer Garner and Rob Lowe (and a LOT of other people you will recognize in small roles).
Very creative plot about a world where no one ever lies. Ever. They don't know how. Its a very blunt and many times embarrassing world (Hostess at restaurant to Jennifer Garner "I'm intimidated by you" or Waiter "I licked your glass") to downright humiliating (Tina Fey as Ricky Gervais' secretary "You're getting fired today if our boss can get up the courage to do it. If not...then tomorrow")
So we have Ricky Gervais as the schlub who is going to get fired and went on a date with Jennifer Garner that he knows isn't going to go anywhere. He's going to get evicted and his mother is dying in a nursing home...I'm sorry..."A really sad place for old people" as its called.
When suddenly, Ricky Gervais has an epiphany and tells the first lie. Of course everyone believes him because no one has ever spoken an untruth before.
And hilarity ensues. But can he win Jennifer Garner? Or is he doomed by his genetic coding to have fat and snub nosed kids that she doesn't want?
Really clever cute movie. Some really funny stuff. Good rental.

It had some funny parts. I found it started slow. "I'm not attracted to you". 'Hi, i'll be your waiter, I am embarassed to work here".
I agree it had some funny parts but it wasnt as good as I had hoped it would be.
Ricky Gervais was awesome in "The Office" but some how I am struggling to find him as great in the movies he has been in so far.

I get not being able to lie, but it sounds like a world of telling everything that is on your brain, that isn't the same thing is it? Why would the waiter say he was embarrassed to work there, did someone ask him or did he just blurt it out? I guess I don't get parts like that.
1 star from me. Not funny and some parts didnt make sense. Glad I only rented it.
