Sad story to follow. Please PM me if you know of a possible solution and/or help.
Many thanks in advance.
Attached I have sent photos of 3 labs who, as you can see, were living happily before Katrina hit. The family has relocated (at least for 2 years) to my area. However, the family is in trouble financially and the husband has insisted on keeping only one dog.
The family rode out the storm in the house because one of the yellows ran away and the son and Mom would not leave. He returned and they all moved here.
I get the impression, the husband is at his wit's end. The landlord of the house they live in does not know 3 dogs live here, and they "promised" the one dog would live in the basement. There is no yard and they can not afford an invisible fence. They signed a year's lease. They can not afford to break the lease and it is very hard to rent a place cheaply with 3 dogs anyway.
The woman is heartbroken and I don't feel she is choosing her husband over the dogs, but leaving him would only strain the budget and the son further.
The worse part is the dark lab (chocolate?) is 10, but in good health. She refuses to put them in a shelter, of course. Are there any foster homes out there available. It would be a miracle if the 6 year old and 10 year old could be together.
She would take them back in 2 years, but understands if they had the chance to go to a forever home that would be best.
These people are running through their savings fast, as they still are paying a mortage on the house in Miss.
Please pass this on to anyone you think might offer these dogs a foster or forever home.
