Just received an e-mail from a breeder friend in Wisconsin. Don't know the whole story but she found out that The Boone County Animal Control is holding one of the labs she sold years before. The owner has turned in the lab to be put down even though her contract states that she will take back her dogs at any time. She has been told by Boone County Animal Control that they will not release the dog to her but only to a rescue group. I know LEARN operates in that area (breeder is in Kenosha) - any advise/help would be appreciated.
This had a good ending - thankfully. The shelter did finally agree to release the dog to the breeder once they checked with the state - she had the original contract that stated that she had the right of first refusal. The original owner should have never re-sold the dog. The breeder drove two hours to pick her up - the dog only stayed at the kill shelter overnight. I saw her yesterday - pretty dirty but overall in good shape - only 5 years old - very people friendly and didn't seemed phased by being in a new location. The breeder will have her vet checked, bathed and will try to find a very good home for her. If anyone is looking for a 5 year old black girl - pm me and I'll give you details.
