we foster for a lab rescue in southern ohio, kentucky, and Indiana........... the name is OKI lab rescue just google that and it will come up
Thanks for all of the input. I checked with the Purebreedlabrescue. in Michigan and was informed that they have no dogs for adoption.
you were given LOTS of other links, and don't look just at breed specific rescues, labs are in ALL rescues! don't get stuck in looking ONLY at breed specific rescues - there are tons and tons of other options in your general area. the poster above recommended this rescue: Miami Valley OKI Lab Rescue (just one of the many links provided)
also look at rescues of other breeds. For example, I foster for catahoula rescue ontario (and a few other rescues) which does mostly catahoula (a breed). But they always have dogs of other breeds as well (and various mixes). Heck, I had a pure bred weimaraner foster for this rescue in the summer. and they've had quite a few pure bred labs as well. Look EVERYWHERE.
you are too specific. As the president of Central Michigan Lab Rescue, I won't return calls that are as brash as the one you left on my voicemail. Just a heads up. :-)
Purebreed Lab rescue is a broker and are not ethical, SE MIchigan Lab rescue is no longer active and the Chocolate lab rescue is just a listing.
If you want to be connected with older dogs from reputable breeders you should check out the Huron River Lab Club listings: Huron River Labrador Retriever Club

Brash? I am really sorry if you feel that my message was brash- I personally would never leave a "brash" message. I do not even remember the message that I left- but I can assure you that it must have been taken in the wrong context. I have no reason to leave "brash" messages.
Also, how am I being too specific. I do not understand you comment. As I stated- I do not remember the message- but possibly I was describing my "preferences". What is wrong with that?
The more I think about it- I am sure that I do not appreciate being called "Brash" on a public forum. If you have something negative about my message- (which I honestly do not remember) then approach me off line (via phone or e-mail). Possibly there are explanations that you are not considering.
Getting a lab from a rescue is like shopping at TJ Maxx or Marshall's....you have to go in with an open mind and have faith that you'll know what's right when you see it. They don't have every color in every size to choose from.
People that work in rescue are saving lives...not filling orders.
Lets be honest. Dogs that are in rescue are not "english" or show bred labs. They are the ones that lilly and norm bred in their back yard. That is a typical dog that is at the shelter these days. Yellow females are the hardest to come into rescue and younger puppies...almost a rarity these days. Now, if you were looking for a 3.5 year old yellow boy, I could show you one. And personally, if you don't open your mind to more of a personality fit versus a color or sex...then you are closing off the opportunity for a great dog...that's just been my experience with rescue these past 6 years.
And, just because we're not taking dogs, doesn't mean we don't have access to dogs. You have to remember that we have other dogs, families and do this on the side...so how your approach is and what your expectations of us greatly determine our relationship. And you posted on a public forum. I can respond here as you brought my rescue up. It goes both ways, right?
