I know this may sound weird but my 5 month old puppu was limping really bad and listless would hardly do anything, would eat etc. I called the breeder etc. I was concerned that she had not pooped and so I did a digital stimulation and after she pooped she almost immediately improved. she began walking around and trying to play etc. Still limping a little bit mbut nothing like before. She pooped last night and This morning she is almost back to normal, still limping a little but putting much more weight and running and playing. She never whimpered, whined, I checked her legs, hips, feet, toes, pads etc and she never pulled back or whined or anything.
Is it possible that constipation causes limping and second how do I keep her from getting constipated
Thanks

I know this is a strange story but by saturday night Zoe was back to normal. She went from Friday morning being listless, not eating or walking or hardly doing anything to running and playing and being normal. It seems that two healthy poops made the difference??
I am happy your pup is feeling better![]()
What are you feeding your pup?
Jackie, Bill, Champ and Buddy
50/50 iams puppy and my regular dog food that i feed my other lab which is exceed 30 % protien 20% fat. she is 5 1/2 months and weighs 33 lbs. I have had her home from the breeder for about 3 weeks. This is the first problem we have had with not pooping.
I never dreamed that constipation could cause her to limp and not put weight on her leg.
Thanks

I very highly doubt that the constipation caused limping. Makes no sense to me at all.
If my puppy was limping for more than a day, I would see the vet.
Sharon - still not a dude.
If there is a good size impaction (constipation) that can cause abdominal pain and could be the reason for the limping and her being lethargic and not eating.
But her stools are normal now and she is still limping. If it continues I would see the vet to be safe.
If she has a problem again with constipation give a few tbsp of canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) in her food. It works for constipation and for loose stools.
After the first poop on Friday night she was immediately better and after her second poop the following morning she was back to normal NO limping no letharagy, she was running, jumping and playing as normal.
I know it sounds crazy but it really seemed that the limpining, not eating, not drinking and lethargy all related to the constipation.
There was one day of limping, not eating etc.
She is fine now it is now 6 days later. I would not let one of my dogs suffer that long without taking them to the Vet.
