Hi
I have a 10 month old chocolate Lab. Recently she started showing some symptoms of ear problems. Mostly head shaking and sensitivity. We went to the vet (not our usual vet) and were told she had a moderate yeast problem in her ears. They gave us some medication and that was that. This vet wasnt our usual vet and he didnt do any of the usual things our normal vet does. Things like checking her heart and temp. etc.
Anyway, Izzy is just not acting like herself. Her nose is warm and dry constantly and she tends to keep to herself. I know that a dry, warm nose isnt always a bad thing but when combined with her mood change it kind of makes me worry. Our normal morning routine is a walk then breakfast...then an hour or so of playtime. For the past 5 days or so when we come in from our walk...she eats and retreats to a her crate. She still plays with enthusiasm....just for a shorter amount of time. She has been by our side every minute since we have had her and now she seems to be happy just laying in a room by herself which just seems odd to me. Im going to pick up a thermometer today so i can check her temp. just to make me feel better. She still wolfs down her food. She just doesnt seem to be as energetic or as happy go lucky.
I know that she is uncomfortable from the ear problems. Has anyone else who has had a dog with any kind of ear problems ever noticed that the dog just seems kind of unhappy? I just want to make sure nothing else in wrong. Perhaps another trip to the vet is in order.
I think I would go back to your normal vet. For an ear infection you should have got some type of ear cleaner too I think we always do. Are her stools and everything else normal? I don't know if the ear infection would cause the lethargy but it doesn't sound normal.

Yes stool, urine ...everything else seems normal. I think ill go back to the vet. It was our normal vet office however our doctor was busy with an emergency. We did get some ear cleaner and i clean her ears on a regular basis.
What is the name of the ear cleaner that you got?
I have a foster for Joe Maringo who came with horrible ears. Smelly, sound of squishy when you rubbed then, and a ton of gunk in them. I called him to see what he wanted to do and he gave me a bottle of K-9 Liquid Health Ear Solutions, Ear cleaner. It is wonderful!! I guess it kills everything and is the same solution as Labby Laura's just already mixed up.
I was afraid Morgan would need to go to the vet but Joe said this works so much better!
Good Luck with your ear problems.

Hi my dog gets yeast now and then due to allergies....Depending on how much money you have ..we spent almost 300.00 for a RAST test a blood test for allergies...and my dog came up allergic to 41 things 10 are food items...avoiding these things can help and help them feel better..I would take your fuzzbutt to your regular vet just to be sure but yeah mine will be all funky when his ears act up....Good luck
