I'm a new (female) lab puppy owner. I have had a couple of males before, but am a newby with my female. First off she is 8 months and was wondering what signs to look for other than blood when she is going to start coming in heat.
Secondly, my lab also snores. Is this common? My other labs were outdoors, this one is indoors and also hunts with me. Any help would be great![]()
Discharge and swelling "down there" are usually the only visable signs that a bitch is in season. Male dogs being overly enthusiastic about sniffing her private parts is also a sure sign.
Snoring is normal as long as the breathing is not laboured.
I'd like to throw this out there and encourage you to get her spayed - then you won't need to worry about it at all. I got my female spayed around that age and was very happy to have done so. My dogs also snore a lot and it's totally normal.
snoring is really common...lol. i have 4 dogs in my house at the moment and they all snore... so you get used to it.. my lab snores the loudest out of all of them... I keep a fan on to kinda of help with the noise
The other day my husband was taking a nap and snoring and Bo was snoring and I couldn't be sure who was louder. Funny!
What were the signs your other female went into heat (the one who just had a litter)? The signs might be similar (but Trickster gave you some great info). Maybe you can ask the breeder of your female, some line (though not all) come into season around the same time - it could give you a rough idea if she's early/late. Then again they are all individuals so it's hard you wouldn't want to assume it's coming late and then be surprised!
Wait. If Gabbi is your only female and she's 8 months how can she be in heat AND just had a litter? If she did just have a litter at 8 months...I am so sad for your girl.

This thread is almost a year old.
That makes the female now about 19 months, still too young for her first litter. :-\
