I know chicken bones are not to be given to dogs, but hadn't heard if pork ribs are or not. BBQ'ing up a bunch, and would like Nemo to feel included. Safe? Thanks in advance.
NO NO NO NO!!!! These can splinter and cause severe intestinal problems and death.
Thanks! I was not going to give them to him unless I heard from somebody who knew better than I. I appreciate the reply. I tossed them immediately, where he can't get at them.
I just admit that years ago I would often give my first lab whole cooked chicken carcesses. Never had any problem. Now I'm very careful about what bones I give my dogs. The worst thing I ever gave them was some of those cooked bones you can get at the pet store (or Walmart). I ususally get the huge ones that last quite a while and don't break off in little sharp pieces (beef), but thought I would save some money and got the smaller ones (pork I think) . Found Skippy after he had eaten most of it in about 10 minutes, with just little knife-like shards surrounding him. It was awful - never seen anything so sharp. Took emilu's away from her, but she had eaten some too. I honestly don't know why something awful didn't happen to them. I spent a long time searching the yard for bone shards, and Emilu still comes up with one occassionally. NEVER AGAIN!!!
This is the rule with bones:
NO COOKED BONES
Go to your local butcher shop and get your pup a nice raw nuckle bone, they will love you for it!
