muscle spasms

My labrador is 3 years old and from time to time he has been having muscle spasms. It all started about a year ago. Just in this month, November he had 3 spasms. If someone knocks on the door he will jump up quickly and he will have a muscle spasm. Sometimes they are very bad ones, his neck is involved in it as well. He drools exessive but does not urinate or defecate. I massage his legs and paws and neck and it soon goes away and he walks it off and his back to normal again. The vet said that I should go to a neurologist because this may lead to epilepsy when he is older. I am wondering if anyone else's labrador goes through this as well. It is terribly frightening and the first time it happened i was so scared and was crying. Its horrible to watch your sweet little puppy go through this and there is nothing you can do. If someone has any insight on this please let me know any information. Thank you.

It could be related to allergy. If it gets better when you change his food, you'll know. Does it only happen when he first gets up, or does it happen when he is just walking along etc? PS---you have enough posts for pictures now. We look forward to lots of pics!

Sometimes it will happen also in the morning like when he first wakes up. Idk how to put pictures like you do everytime you post. LOL

Up at the top in the blue strip, click on forum actions, then edit profile. Once opened on the left you will see Edit Signature, click on it and a page will open and you can load pictures from photobucket. The little picture to the left of your login name is your avatar. You do it the same way, just click on edit avatar. Have you loaded pictures on photobucket yet? You go to Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket. Create an album from pics in your computer. Then once done, you can adjust size. Hover your mouse over the picture, when a window opens click edit. To post here, hover your mouse, when the box opens, copy the bottom code and paste it on this site. Hope that helps. Garth had to help me to learn. Where are you from?

I recently read about a similar condition, but can't remember where. I think Stimulus-sensitive seizure?
