GRR. People around here just throw food on the side of the road. We were walking and he found a small plastic bag with a bagel in it and grabbed it. I pulled most of the bag out of his mouth but couldn't get him to drop the bit wrapped around the bagel so I let him carry it home because I had nothing to bribe him with on me, and in the small amount of time I took to grab treats he freaking ate it.
Should I take him to the vet? Will he be okay?
I don't think it was a lot of plastic... I feel stupid because we still have trouble with Drop It. I'm going to check out how much I pulled out to see how much could be left...
Edit: he must have swallowed about enough plastic to wrap a bagel, or slightly less.

Cinder has eaten food wrapped in plastic, she's even eaten food in aluminum foil. If it was a small piece I wouldn't worry much. Just keep an eye on him. You might want to do poop patrol, watch his poop over the next couple of days to see if it reappears. If he stops eating, stops drinking, stops pooping or starts vomiting you should take him to the vet.
I would also recommend teaching him leave it and drop it. That way if you spot something ahead of time you can tell him leave it, but if he does get something you can get him to drop it.
Watch his pooping...one time our other dog, our 12 yr old we lost in May, ate a dryer softner sheet. It got stuck when she was pooping, and I had to pull it the rest of the way out of her. She yelped, so it must not have felt too great! Anyway, I am always fighting Sophie over one plastic bag or another. I never know how much she has swallowed.

You may have seen in one of my other posts that I pulled a 30cm long bag out of Dylan's bottom ! It should hopefully pass in time though a bit of help might be needed !

The stuff these Labs will eat never ceases to amaze me...

Erns has eaten many bags bread, blankets, and yards of tin foil and stuff. I keep telling the vet one day he will open up that dog to find half the house in there.
I watch carefully for a day or 2.
Last week Tess ate a huge chunk of ham wrapped in foil.

Poop patrol, day 1.
Subject is in good spirits.
No sign of plastic bag, but have noted pooply presence of yesterday's mid-morning carrot.
Expect that plastic bag is en route.
sounds like fun times!![]()

Hope all passes well!
I had a board and train pup in a couple years back that grabbed a piece of plastic that came off of a frozen dinner that had blown off the counter (small Mac and cheese dinner). Dog played catch me if you can until she managed to swallow it. I told the owner about it when she came to pick her up a day later. She did not seemed to concerned, until nearly three days LATER, said dog barfed up the plastic..... Owner seemed mystified as to how the dog got the plastic... HELLO!!!
