I took Rudder to the vet today because I noticed a cloudy spot in the middle of on her left eye. The vet determined that it was a protein spot, said that it would not bother her vision though it will not go away. I can not find any information on the web about protein spots...anybody have any experience with this?

Never heard of it... how old is the dog? I googled protein spots in eyes and found out it is vitreous floaters. I have one in my eye, and I don't notice it unless I look at a white wall, then I see a black speck. This must be what the vet is talking about.

Rudder will be 4 years old in January, really not that old. The spot appears to be on her cornea - if you look at her eye from the side, it appears to be on the surface.

My Remy had one. I switched foods and it went away. This was back when I fed Nutro. I switched to another food, I think either ProPlan or Eukanuba and it went away.

Ok - I was feeding my girls Taste of the Wild but switched because of the high protien content - I switched to Blue Buffalo about 4 or 5 months ago. I will look into that - thanks!

Laura - do you remember how long it was before it went away? Thanks.

My Piper had a protein deposit on one eye from 2-4yrs, it hasn't come back since. Strangely her mom was the same way, but Piper doesn't seem to be passing it on to her daughters.
I appreciate any and all information - thank you! I have not found many that have heard of this and it is so hard to find any information. I did not think that the vet was exactly helpful in my opinion - she told me that she has no idea what causes it and now that she has it it will not go away. She did not recommend a food change or anything. Nicole - did you change up food or anything to help/treat it? I fed Taste of the Wild for almost 3 years and switched about 5 or 6 months ago to Blue Buffalo due to the high protein content on TOW. This protein spot just appeared about 4 weeks ago.
