chocolate lab with white hair

I have a 1 yr old chocolate lab and she has recently developed a ring of white, bristly hair around her tail. Has anyone else noticed this and why is it happening?

It sounds like it might be a scar from something.

That's probably where the scent gland is. It's not uncommon from what I have read over the years.

That is what I was going to say too. Bauer has the same thing, but it really isn't noticeable anymore. It was very noticeable when he was about a year old; he is now 4 and I really can't see the white hairs (unless I specifically look for them).

I guess its pretty common. Here is a link, the picture is of a yellow, but you can see the ring on the tail.
