Eukanuba, special Labrador food?

I just got a letter from my vet promoting this dog food, which comes in a special labrador retriever formula. What do you think of that?

I really don't know what to feed Jack... I've tried googling the "good" brands but in New Zealand we seem to have different brands from everywhere else. I'm worried I'm feeding him the wrong stuff. (Right now he gets the brand Tux. I have tried a few brands with him and this one didn't make him hyperactive like the other things I tried.)

He seems to have developed a patch of dry skin on his tail. I noticed it yesterday when I was grooming him. Could it be the food?

Last time I looked, the breed specific was almost identical to their large breed formula. And the lg breed one cost less. I would go with the large breed of the two although I like the maintenance formula the best.

Generally breed specific foods are a marketing ploy and nothing else. Labs nutritional needs are the same as most other dogs. It's just a way to sell more food.

We are slowly getting a better selection of dog food here. But it is expensive.
I wont touch Eukanuba with a barge pole. Myself I don't feed supermarket food,like Tux but that is my opinon. Many dogs do very well on it.

A few years ago I found a company (Ultra) that makes kibble here. They deliver and was half the price of Eukanuba, but not sure if it still is.
Ultra pet food | Healthy natural dog food I am not conviced it is the best food, but better than Tux by a country mile and probably same price.
They now have a fish one so tossing up if I will try that with Tess.

I came in to ask about new foods here so see what replies I get.

Me too Colin. I pay and arm and a leg for special food for Erns and it is ranked well down....probably one step up from super market stuff.Problem is I can't feed anything else.

About an inch from the base? There is a gland there and when it becomes clogged up the skin gets dry and scaly and the hair can fall out. Google Stud Dog Tail. Gently wash it daily to remove the clogged skin and then leave it alone. It's not the food.
