I have a rescued black lab, He licks his paws, sometimes bites them. Alergies was my first thought and have him on no grain, quality duck potato diet for some time and have ruled that out, his feet smell like corn chips which from my research seems to lead me to think its a bacteria called Pseudomonas. Is there a proven cure or something I can do to relieve his discomfort Thanks goyeti..
still could be allergies..mine was on duck and potoato, but still developed seasonal allergies. although not a cure, if the pads get sore and red, i have found some Witch Hazel applied topically helps relieve the itch and promotes healing. I put some in a little spray bottle, that seems to work best. good luck .
Normal Lab feet smell like Fritos. Is your dog biting/licking to the point of them becoming irritated/raw?

She was plagued by dog foot problems and I think it turned out that her garden mulch was to blame

It could be any number of things.
Kassa used to get sore feet after being outside in the wet grass. I always made sure her feet were dry (and her chin after drinking) and if they worried her too much I would wash them in the human medicated shampoo Nizarol.
Both Erns and Tessa chew their paws from food allergies/sensitivite. I have been feeding Tessa raw and her itchys have been clearing up. The last week I haven't had time so feeding kibble and she is starting to lick and chew her feet again. First time in weeks so this tells me for her it is food.

Sounds like it could be either "contact" or evironmental allergies. You can try rinsing or wiping his feet off 9don't forget the pads and between the toes.) I don't use one thing with Caleb- sometimes I wipe him down with baby wipes, sometimes a damp washcloth, sometimes I stick him in the tub and rinse him off (or use the hose in the summer).
Not just Labs- all dogs feet smell like Fritos.![]()
I never knew other dog owners had the problem of their dogs licking their paws. Our 2 year old lab is constantly sitting and licking and chewing his paws. He also loves to roll on the only patch of carpet we have on our stairs. His fur is dry and always has been from the time we got him. His pays seem fine, no sores or missing fur. I always thought he just liked to lick the top of his paws. He also is the dog that hits sitting in the dirt when camping. Is this something I should ask my vet about?

I have an allergic dog...the first thing the vet asked me was does she lick and chew her feet. I have read countless articles on the net about allergic dogs and a big warning sign is the feet thing. Our vet said dogs are often allergic to chicken or poultry. Also too much protein can do it. You might try Tast of the Wild Pacific Stream, it is fish based and has no grain.
