Stoli's back paw has a hanging torn nail. it looks like the entire nail. i can see the quick below(still attached) She isn't bleeding but seems to be in pain. Will not let me touch her foot(even growled at me for trying) now she is putting little weight on it. She is currently laying on me shaking.
What can I do?? Should I bring her to the vet? (emergency or wait til tomorrow?)
Thanks in advance.
Tim
Boy, I am no expert, but I'd probably get her to a vet. I know its not life threatening, so I am not sure about going to ER. Sometimes dogs will gnaw something like this themselves. Watch her for awhile and see if she pulls it the rest of the way off.
I definitely think she needs to go just don't know when or if there is anything I can do in the meantime. I hate seeing her in pain.
Do you have an e-vet close by? I would take her to see a vet if you think she is in pain. I would worry she may rip it the rest of way off if she catches it on something. Let us know how she is.
m monitoring the situation closely now. She is calm and not shaking anymore. She actually just got up and went to her bed and fell asleep. If any more signs of pain are seen i will take her otherwise I will crate her tonight and take her in the morning. Does that sound like the right thing to do?
thats what I would do.

Stoli is back home from the vet. The doc gave her a local and cut off the hard hanging part of the nail. He also trimmed back the tissue(quick?) that was sensitive. He bandaged her up and gave me pain meds. He said she should be herself in the morning! She came out of the exam room running and jumping on me so she must be feeling better!!
