I have a 6 month old lab that we have been struggling with loose stool issues ever since we got her. She did test positive for round worms during
her initial vet appointment, but the last two fecals have come back negative for worms. We switched foods (from chicken soup for the dog lovers
soul to Wellness) gradually over a week thinking it may be due to issues with food. We've been on the new food for over a week and it seems to
be getting worse. We have also tried giving canned pumpkin but that doesn't seem to be helping either. Any suggestions on what to do next would
be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.
Maybe a less rich food would be a better idea. Pro Plan makes a sensitive stomach food that many dogs do quite well on.
How much time are you allowing for the transition to a new food? Cold turkey transitions can make a bad gut worse.
Sharon - still not a dude.
Try giving plain yogurt. My Sophie has been getting it all along. She loves it! I give her 2 or 3 big spoonfuls a day. It helps with digestion and replaces any enzymes that might be missing. I had some softer stools when we gave her some richer canned puppy food. So the food may be too rich. We live in a one-horse-town and there isn't alot of choices about brands, so we give her Iames Puppy. It has been good so far.
another fecal? if it never firmed up, i'd wonder if other parasites arent there.
