This isn't a common occurance but over the last few days Thor has been making a wheezing/coughing type sound, the first time this occured i checked he hadn't gotten something stuck in his throat but to no avail as he is quite stubborn, this has happend on three more separate occasions since the first time has anyone had any experience of this? any advice would be appreciated
Thanks

Wheezing/coughing can be symptoms of more serious things as well - especially in an older dog. You should get to a vet.

The first thing I think of when I hear a dog is wheezing or sounds like it has something stuck in its throat is Laryngeal Paralysis. The only way to know for sure is to take your dog to the vet. Even if it is "only" kennel cough, that's contagious, so it'd be a really good idea to get him into a vet to get it treated.
I think the sound you are referring to is what we call a "backward sneeze". It's pretty common and not a real concern. To get them to stop you need to make them swallow. You can do this by holding their mouth closed and rubbing their throat. Sometimes I pinch their nose gently closed too. Once they swallow the "backward sneeze attack" ends.
