Frankie. Dog walker left me a note yesterday that he had straight diarrhea. I woke up at 4 to let The Face out and found some watery piles in the kitchen. Poor baby. I wonder if he rang the bell and I didn't hear him. I'm putting him back on the old food.....
Yea, but I don't want to continue him on this food (California Natural). I'm going to stop and buy a bag of the other stuff I was giving them. The only reason I switched was because of the high caloric content. Stupid me. I'm just going to feed them less and give them a bit more greens.
I'm going to do the pumpkin tonight though.
I'm embarrassed to say, I didn't. :embarrass: I've changed their food several times without transitioning and it's never been an issue. Now I feel bad.
I'm just going back to the Purina One Natural Blends. They all did fabulously on that.
I like to see a transition as well for about 7 days but I will admit....I recently just switched all my dogs and I did not transition :surprise: THANKFULLY there was no outbursts!
Sometimes those high calorie foods are too rich.
I just put my Cinder on a new food that is I think over 100 cal a cup to what she was being fed before. I switched cold no transition. No probs. That was a blessing knowing she is my diarrhea dog! But she has gained a significant amount of weight. I forgot to tell hubby to cut back the food LOL I just called him and asked and he said he is giving her a heaping cup (and our measuring cup is 1 1/3 cups)!!!!!!! YIKES!!
I said in less than a week we made her fat...he said she is just retaining water
I just had to change my dogs to EVO, I have to transition very slowly, Shane just can't do it fast. Canned pumpkin works great, plus they love it! Clarence my senior lab can be switched quickly, but Shane has to be transitioned very slowly, longer than 7 days.
My guys love the pumpkin, too. I haven't given it to them in awhile so it'll be a treat. My husband took Frankie for his short walk this morning and he said he pooped. I asked him if it was normal. He said he couldn't tell because the river was raging and it was dark out. So I asked him if he heard any squirts. He said no.
Yes, at 511 calories, I would say so. Purine One Naturals does not list their calories on their website, but I'm willing to bet it's nowhere near that. Cut back on the CN and do a transition as others have stated.
I'm in the middle of switching Abbey and I'm doing it VERY slow because her stomach is super sensitive. I think it'll end up being about 4 weeks to switch completely..!
Wesley is STILL a Purina dog because I was never able to successfully transition him onto anything else. He came home from the breeder's on Purina, and is still munching it daily. I'd get to about 1/4 new and 3/4 old and he'd leak like a sieve. No matter WHAT I tried to transition him to.
He could do worse, I suppose, than Purina.........

I usually switch my crew cold turkey, but when I did that with cn I had major blowouts. The higher calories means you feed a lot less and I was feeding too much.
