    Default Odd Behavior

My 13 yr. old lab is acting funny. She has the usual arthritic pains and such.
However, today she pants, her face gets drawn in(the tired look) and only wants to be outside. Today she prefers to be out in the back laying on pine needles. Doesn't really want to come in, (she is usually inside except for potty breaks.) Out back once she lays down she stops panting and looks fine. Other than that she doesn't appear to be in any distress. Any ideas? Thanks

Several thoughts come to mind, but I'm not a vet. You might want to schedule a vet checkup for her though, just to get a handle on what's going on.

Wanting to be alone and away from the family is not usually a good sign. Were she mine she would be heading off to the vet promptly.

    Dit-toe.

At that age any strange or odd behaviour would justify a vet visit for me.

I'd get her to a vet. It sounds very familiar to me. My lab, Cybil, was only 9 and had similar behaviour. She was acting weird for a day and a half and we decided "tomorrow we'll take her to the vet" and then she was acting completely normal again. We thought she'd be okay. Ten days (after the inital incident where she was acting strange) she died (while we were walking the kids home from school). Not saying that is going to happen to your lab, but if I sometimes wonder if we had gotten Cybil to the vet if she would have had more time.

    Default THANKS

Thanks for the help and advice. I thought going off by herself wasn't good but thought I would check on what other's thought. She will be heading to the vet tomorrow.
