Yes, that is pretty sad. You may want to post the Blue Knight color link (it shows what happens when a yellow carries chocolate and is bred to a black that carries chocolate and yellow, for instance): http://www.blueknightlabs.com/color/coatcolor.html
I'm always saddened to by those REALLY reputable lab breeders who do so much research and pick *just* the right stud dog for their litter and end up with only 1-2 puppies (of which, maybe they turn out to be "keepers" or more likely not). Go figure. Then, you have these basically BYB'ers who have HUGE litters, which means basically more $$$ for them since that is probably why they're breeding in the first place. (sigh)
Interesting about the pet-quality minis- I never thought about people overbreeding minis before. Makes sense, though, that when John Q Public finds out about miniature horses, they decide to take it on themselves to make sure everyone and their mother has one of these "little darlings." It is just so frustrating sometimes, regardless of the breed (or even species)!

Sure, and because even the stallions are so gentle and handleable, JQP gets his own stallion and goes at it. Then he can't be bothered to register his horses (that costs money, pets don't need papers, people won't pay for it, etc....) I STILL have horses I sold years ago in my name. *sigh*Originally Posted by CaliforniaLabLover
When their horses don't sell or hay gets expensive, their unregistered Mini gets dumped at an auction. Sometimes they don't get rescued and go to the meat man. Our version of the "kill shelter". JQP doesn't care, the NEXT one will sell! And if not, oh, well.
We do that, too. And Minis have a higher rate of dystocia that the big guys. There were LOTS of foals lost this year on the Mini Forum (we lost a colt in Feb- his head was back and we couldn't get him out in time) but the BYB don't seem to have this problem.Originally Posted by CaliforniaLabLover
