Default Molly and I had a dog follow us home, and I feel bad for taking him back.

I took Molly for a walk when I got home from work today. She however was not behaving herself nicely so we were turning around to go home when I heard whining behind us. I turned around to see a small puppy (no more then 4 months old) that sort of reminded me of Molly's sweet Cricket. He was wearing a blue collar, but we were the only people in the park.

Sooooo I let him follow us home (which he did very willingly) and the little bugger hopped over me while I was un-clipping Molly's leash to let her into the yard. He had a blast zooming around the yard with Molly while I lured him to me with a treat to put a leash on him to walk him around and see if he belonged somewhere. He was petrified of having a leash on, but I didn't want to risk him darting into the street.

About 10 minutes and 7 doors knocked on into our venture a tall man answered the door. The sweet dog that had been bounding along side me suddenly slunk behind me, tail tucked under him, and ears pinned back while whimpering. I asked if this was his dog or if he knew where he might live, and tall man replied "yeah, unfortunately and he needs to stop running off" I simply smiled and said that he was safe with Molly and I. The man grabbed the dog by his collar and lifted him up carrying him out back back to the yard. No "thank you" or "sorry he followed you home"

I can only hope that the man doesn't treat that sweet dog poorly. He was so young, and so sweet. I felt so bad when that poor baby hid behind me whimpering. I bet if I hadn't taken him back the man wouldn't have even come looking.

    Oh man...

If he gets out again (and you can almost bet he will) don't take him back.

We had one like that in our neighborhood about 5 doors down. They called the dog an effing idiot when we took him back and then slammed the door in Scott's face. A few days later, the dog was out running around again. Scott didn't even bother taking him back. Our next door neighbor said she'd take him and she did. The other jerks never even said a word when she walked by them with the dog on a leash. :

I hope the poor baby stays ok long enough to come back to you.

:'( That is a very sad story, but you did the right thing. How could you have known that the guy was such a jerk? I hope that poor pup is OK!

I sure hope that he's ok

The part that got me the most was the whining. If he could have spoken to me I'm certain he would have been saying "Please don't take me back..."

You did the right thing....how could you know the owner would be a jerk. If he gets out again...I think I would be tempted to keep him. Poor baby.

Next time don't take him back. Make him disappear into a rescue.

The poor pup's attitude shows you what kind of treatment he gets at home. > If you see him out loose again, I agree, don't take him back!

My method in similar situations is I bring the dog back once. I see it again it goes to whatever shelter or rescue I can the dog into, unless of course I have some angel waiting in the wings...
