another lab. We would really like to adopt from a rescue. But I am having trouble finding one close enough or one that will adopt out of state. If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great. Any websites that anyone knows where I might be able to start. Thanks so much.
can you tell us what state you are in?
yes so sorry I am in Kansas.
It doesn't appear that there is a Lab Rescue group in Kansas, but when I do a search of several shelters in Kansas there are quite a few Labs for adoption. Nice looking too.
Try this.......it s city specific, so I couldn't help much. I'm sure many of the "all breed" rescues have labs.

My Samm came from Kansas. I believe he was pulled from this shelter:

or it was Heart of Jackson Humane Society
I can't remember off the top of my head.
I think if you look carefully, you'll find that adopting out of state isn't a huge hurdle. They adopted to me, and I'm on the West Coast of Canada!

Hey Boomer (I assume by your name you are an OU fan or grad... ;D )
There is a prison dog program in Lansing. They have Labs sometimes. www.safeharborprisondogs.com. They have a couple of Labs and Lab mixes right now from a quick glance at the website. I don't know where you are in Kansas but they do all their adoption fairs at the Petsmart on the west side of Kansas City, near I435 and Shawnee Mission Road (south of 1-70 about 5 miles maybe?)
I got my dog Billie from the Colorado Women's Prison Dog program out of Canyon City Colorado. They have no problem adopting out of state but it's quite a haul to do so. Worth it as far as I was concerned as Billie came spayed, vaccinated, trained, crate trained and with a journal of her life with her trainer.
If you couldn't tell, I'm a big advocate of the prison dog programs. They're all rescues and you get the benefits of them being trained, etc. There are programs like this in many states.
Did you try petfinder?
This is what I got for Topeka, KS. I had to enter a city name to search for dogs.

yes I am an ou fan. I haven't looked real hard at the Lansing prison dog website but I did come across it. We have a prison dog program here in Hutch called the Lucky Dog. They have a yellow lab(Sammy) that we filled out an application for and we even met him, but apparently something happened to him in his past cause he isn't extremely fond of kids (we have 2) or other dogs. So the lady told us he wouldn't fit with our family. I so hope he finds a family to fit with cause he was the sweetest!! I did find another yellow in the shelter in Mcpherson that I am going to call about his name is Buddy. I want to thank you all so much for all your input it has really helped in my looking and I hope we will eventually find one. But I will also continue to search for prison dog programs. Cause I have heard nothing but good about them. Thanks again and keep the suggestions coming if yall have any more.
I have a five year old chocolate male who I am sure we can arrange transport for...again!
