How many of you have labs with a pronounced occipital protuberance?
Viewed in profile, Dutch has a rather pointy head. I guess it is very common among hounds...take a look at the profiles of basset hounds or bloodhounds...I wonder if he might have some hound in his bloodline somewhere.

Other than this, he looks all (field) lab. I am wondering if this is an aberration or if it is a feature that many labs have. He is a 3 y.o. yellow.

    Maddy has a pointy head....LOL

There is an old wives tale that says that pointy head dogs are smarter...and in our house it seems that way, but it's not really true!

Stevie has a occipital point and she's definitely not the brightest bulb in the pack. The sweetest but not the brightest.

Are you talking about the external saggital crest, along the top of the skull? The external occipital protuberance is actually the ridge at the back of the skull right around where the neck attaches. Leave it to the anatomy geek, right?

Libby has a little bit of a pronounced saggital crest as well as a little bit of a pronounced occiptal protuberance. Monty seems to have too much "meat" to be able to feel either one. LOL - Maybe that's where he got the nickname "meathead" around our house.

Well I was TOLD that it was an Occipital Protuberance, but you may be right. All I know is that in profile, he has a pointed head.

I'll change the subject on the post.

Emma does...it's not as noticeable now as when she was a pup. I'm not sure if this photo really shows it, but she definitely was a pin head as a pup and it leveled out as she matured. Emma is sharp as a tack...really a bright dog.

Aidan does not have one...he is a flat head lol

Remington's is pointy. I too was told a dog with a pointed head was smart. NOT. He's one brick shy of a load Ruger is a flat head (and VERY smart). Magnum is somewhat in between.

Are we talking about the Lab bump of knowledge? Sam has one. I just kind of assumed that they all did. Thought it was a just something that they had not related to intelligence but to physiology. Sam's pretty smart.
