She’s adorable. She came from a BYB but she's still adorable. I brought over a welcome home gift bag full of toys and treats for her. When we were sitting there having a drink he mentioned that a friend of his also got a male choc. lab a few weeks ago and he is already talking about letting his have a little of pups with the male. I'm not a 'lecture' kind of person so all I did is mention that if he has her spayed before her first heat it cuts her chances of cancer down 95%. I also said he shouldn't let her have a litter of pups till she's two. He was thinking she could have a litter at 1. I hope he comes to his senses but I voiced my opinion gently and I'll leave it at that. I did give him alot of my training books and a book on Labs, if I remember correctly it does have a chapter on it discouraging breeding if you are a novice, hopefully he'll read that chapter and take it to heart
Hope the book makes a diff.![]()
Why don't you let him know about this website? He'll learn alot and we can discourage him from breeding her.![]()

Because I like him! lol
Seriously, he isn't very computer literate, and it's been my experience here, that he would get flamed for even mentioning the B word here. Newbies get treated pretty rough here sometimes.
I agree but it seems to me they get treated rough because they insist on breeding their dogs in spite of the advice given here.Originally Posted by SandieF

I think you handled the situation well. Make sure he reads the books you gave him..offer to help and stuff like that. I sure hope he changes his mind and does not breed her.
How about printing out the "Our Best Advice" thread for him in the puppy section here?

Sierra is only 9 weeks old. If in a year he is still talking about it, I may do just that.Originally Posted by jzgrlduff
the "Our Best Advice" thread is mainly training tips and would be a good read for a new puppy owner.
I wish him luck with her.

You could also print some of the appropriate articles from Labby's website to let him read....
