Okay, I know we've covered this a few times - but we weren't going through it then. Mellow is only 12 weeks old!!!! The other morning I heard my daughter screaming with delight, "Mommy! Come quick, Mellow is hugging me!" It happened again this morning. Isn't he a little too young for this?? Our daughter is so sweet and naive, I hate to enlighten her. Here was a conversation between her and her dad:
"Daddy, what are these?" pointing to Mellow's underside.
"Those are his nipples" hub replies.
Emma, "I thought this was his nipple." pointing to his penis. Hub says, "No, that is his penis." Meanwhile I am dying. I just love this sweet and innocent stage. I guess it's probably time we're a little more forthcoming with some things...
But why mommy?
But why?
why?
LOL, You have MANY questions to answer.

Not too early... Ender upon meeting my mom's lab at 10 weeks... immediately tried to hump him... albeit unsuccessfully.
It's an excitment thing, or a dominance thing, rarely a sexual thing.

Buck always humped this one big stuffed toy he had. Started around 12 weeks. Like lindsay said...it's a excitement/dominance thing...not sexual hehe :P
Good luck with answering your daughter!!
Sorry but i had to laugh at your post-it sounded very sweet- how did your husband keep a straight face? how old is your daughter?
Buddy's nickname was sir humpalot.** His favorite victim was a very large stuffed bunny. He rarely humps anything anymore unless he get really riled up.
Just correct and redirect. He'll outgrow it.
If it makes you feel any better, it isn't strictly a "boy" thing. Sami is big into humping her best friend Toby. :... and he's totally clueless! :

CoCo, a female, has enjoyed humping our couch cushions for months now... with her stuffed lion in her mouth no less! :
She has also tried to hump other dogs, or people who were on the floor. With people, we correct... with dogs, we let them work it out unless its really annoying the other dog (or its owners).

Your pup is trying to tell your daughter that he thinks he's higher on the food chain than her. I'd recommend teaching your daughter how to tell him no!![]()

I've had puppies humping their littermates even before their eyes were open.
