I rescued a lab from a neighbor 11 years ago. He's a classic, obviously pure bred, but no papers. He's absolutely the best dog in temperment, intelligence, hunting ability, loyalty, I could ask for. I'd love to have a puppy from him, vet says he's plenty healthy. Any suggestions on how I find a mate for him? Leads?
WHY? Just because your dog you have now is GREAT doesn't mean that the puppies will turn out that way, even if you did find a GREAT mate for him.
Spend time in your local shelters, visit a breeder. You WILL find something just as close as what you are asking for.
Hi. Please read the articles at this site; they should help clarify things for you:

Lots of dogs are great, but that doesn't mean that they should be bred. If you don't have pedigree information on this dog, no matter how good he seems to you, you don't have enough information to breed him. Not even if he's an obedience trial champion and master hunter with five years' experience as a therapy dog--you need to know the grandparents and great-grandparents to make an intelligent decision about breeding. Not to mention that you'll never find an owner of a quality bitch who would let you breed your dog to her.
This must be a joke, right?
