I always walk a lot in the forest with Laika (realy, you realy must do youre best to avoid that) .. But i never use stuff like frontline or similiar products, is just feel those ticks if she has one ..
And .. ticks and flea's dont like salt water .. if she has them, we often let them swim in the sea![]()
we use Advantix here too, ticks are so easy to spot on

i just wanted to chime in and say that frontline was totally useless for maddox, but we haven't seen a single tick since switching him to advantix.

My vet won't use Frontline any longer. He says the fleas and ticks have developed a resistance to it. I use (at his recommendation) Vectra 3D.

I don't doubt your vet said that, but I do not understand how an insect develops a resistance to a poison that kills them. If it was a repellent, I could understand it. But Frontline is a poison that kills the adult, there are no offspring. How do they develop a resistance?

I don't know, I'm no biology expert. I'm guessing that some are not killed and do have offspring?
I do know that the first time I bought Vectra I still had a dose of Frontline Plus left. One dog got Frontline, the other two got Vectra.
Guess which dog had fleas and which didn't?

Frontline plus also stopped working for Buddy after 8yrs he got fleas so I switch to AdvanageII no more fleas never had a tick problem
This is interesting.
We don't have ticks and I thought fleas didn't like salt water and chlorine so haven't given Erns anything as he swims daily. His previous owners would have 3 people sit on him to do it so as soon as I get anywhere near his neck with it he goes into a fenzy.
Last week the vet said I was wrong and salt water doesn't kill the fleas and with allergy dogs like Tessa need to make sure they don't get fleas. Confused now and not sure what I will do.
Pat I hope you can find them.
