I tell you, that Comfortis must really taste like crap! We have a task from hell each month when it comes to getting Sophie to eat the dang thing! When we first starting using it, we tried just getting her to eat the chewable tablet. NOT! So we tried breaking it up in her kibble....she ate around it. We then used weiners, put the chunks inside and let them sit till soft. Still, no way! So we put peanut butter on the weiner too (Yuck!) and finally got her to eat it. Next month we tried squishing it into a PBJ. NOPE! It took two days of pinching off bites of the sandwich and mixing it with other goodies to get it down her. Last month I disolved it in icecream. She loves Ice cream! But NOPE she wouldn't eat it. Over the next two days, I mixed the awfullest conglomeration in that ice cream! By the time I got it down her, it had eggs and bacon and hashbrowns in with the ice cream! So this month, I think....she loves scrambled hamburger, and rarely gets any, so I disolved the Comfortis is water and mixed it with hamburger. She took one sniff and looked at me with the saddest eyes you have ever seen! She really wanted that hamburger, but wouldn't eat it. I put some grated cheese on top and finally got her to eat a little bit. So I put the bowl in the fridge till today. This morning my husband added scrambled eggs and homestyle potatoes to it. She wouldn't eat it! I then cooked bacon, which is her favorite thing in the world...I crumbled it in the mixture. A couple of bites and it was again no way. So I gave her a small bowl of milk. I then hand fed her this mess, she ate it! Everyonce in awhile looking at me with sad eyes! It took 2 days, but I finally got it down her! Comfortis works so well. Better than any flea product we have ever tried, but dang it must taste horrible! Plus even I can smell it, and I don't have a doggy nose! I sure wish the Comfortis company had a different medium in which to administer it. It is a real chore to get it down her!![]()

Why can't you just cram it down her throat?

If it is a pill form, I agree with Karen, put it down her throat, and rub her nose. What this will do, is cause her to lick her nose. She can't lick her nose without swallowing.
It is a chewable and is huge! It is about the size of a quarter, and 1/4 inch thick!! No way to cram it down her throat!

Break it in half, or whatever and cram it down her throat! There is no reason whatever, that a dog should not accept a pill being given to it. Yes, disguising it is preferable and easier, but if that option has failed, down the hatch it goes!!!!!

I have tried breaking it, and it crumbles. It isn't scored. I can get some chunks, but I am afraid I will lose a lot of it, because it breaks into such small pieces. Some break into sharp pointed triangle shaped pieces. I think I am going to see it I can get ahold of the company. This is ridiculous! They are supposed to be chewable. They must really be gross. We gave up giving them to out toy poodle and still use k-9 Advantix on her. She refused to eat them too. The vet wants Sophie on Comfortis because of her dry skin, and other allergies.

Okay. Sam has no issues eating pills, but Skippi did.
My parents would wrap the offending pill in cheese, but ole Skip got wise and would eat the cheese and spit out the pill.
They got around this by giving her a plain piece of cheese, chased by pill wrapped in cheese followed by another piece of cheese. The dog was so interested in getting another piece of cheese that she didn't take the time to chew the middle piece with the pill in it.
It's worth a shot. Given that the pill is huge, you probably want to split it in half.
Have you tried cream cheese? After many failed efforts with Louie, he simply cannot resist the cream cheese.
This is what I do...
I get a few pieces of someting that Miko really likes (cheese, meat, bread, whatever). I then wrap the med in the middle of one of the pieces. I toss a piece down that doesn't have the med, then as soon as she takes it in her mouth, I throw down another piece -- this way she kind of just swallow the previous piece so that she can gobble up the next piece. Toss down the one with the med at some point (it's usually the 2nd or the 3rd piece that I throw). Make sure that you toss the pieces pretty quickly so that they don't get a chance to find what what's wrapped in the middle.
On the rare occassion that this doesn't work, then I just bury it down her throat.![]()

Believe me, I have tried all these tricks. I wish they weren't chewable. They have a very stinky, smelly odor. Very distinctive. That is part of the problem. They must be really bad! I will try the cream cheese, but I have my doubts! Thankfully I don't have to worry till March 4th!!
