Default Harvey is a good guard dog!

Last year I bought a sign that I wanted to stick on our back gate -

DH felt it would be a bad idea to advertise to any 'unsavory' characters that the big bark behind the gate belonged to a lab, he figured we would be burgled in no time, LOL.

Well, i can tell you that Harvey is a good guard dog. Thursday night we were coming back from our walk, i had harvey on an extendable lead and he was a couple of feet behind me sniffing something in the shadows. We are about to cross a road, so i am looking up and down the street to make sure it is safe to cross, when on the other side of the road this 'man' started effing and blinding at me. "What the F*** are you looking at?" were his first words to me, then when i didnt respond, he said "I am F***ing talking to you" and then started to move towards me, at which point, Harvey came out of the shadows, barking and growling, he put himself between me and the man. I dont think the guy realised i had a dog but he soon turned and walked off in the other direction. My harvey was protecting his mum . The guy was clearly under the influence of something, i live in a small village but didn't recognise him.

I have to walk the same way every night, there is no othe rplace to go, but since then, everytime we near that spot, Harvey goes into 'High alert'. He is such a brave boy!

As for the sign, we did find a place for it, it is just above his bed

I'd have reported that Bernie ! Very scarey !

Well done Harvey - hope that you got an extra treat for being "brave" ( Oh come on Bernie - he was shaking more than you :-) )

I thought about reporting it Colin, but honestly what would they have done. Nothing, because i wasn't physically hurt, figured i would save myself the agro of filling out forms etc.
And yeah, Harvey did get a special treat when he got home, he was quivering a little by then

Good boy, Harvey! That's a good idea about having your cell phone with you. Pepper spray might also help if he comes around again.

Wow good for him. I never worried when I took the beagles for walks. I was sure Cooper and Benny would tear anyone apart if they came near....lol
The voices in my head may not be real, but they have some good ideas!
