Hello everyone,
I'll openly admit that I am a bit paranoid, but I would like to get some input or some piece of mind. We just put my dogs flea and tick medication (the vet gave us frontline). We were eating supper and noticed that he was liking a lot, as if he tasted something sour. Looking at his back, it looks as though the frontline ran down his side a bit and he licked it. He keeps licking as though he is still tasting it. Can this be toxic to him? Is there something I should be looking for or do you think he will be okay? Also any advice for keeping him from licking it more? I took a wet washcloth to that spot, but I'm not sure if that is enough?

found this on a site:
(hope Buddy will be okay)
Side-Effects/Cautions - Do not allow the contents to come into contact with the eyes or mouth of the user or dog.
The agent is bitter tasting and salivation may occasionally occur if the dog licks the application site immediately after treatment. This should not be taken as a sign of intoxication and should stop after a short time without treatment.

Thank you for this information. He seems to be okay, but I always worry about things like this. Next time we will be putting it closer to his neck with hopes it won't run.

We use Comfortis. While it is difficult to coax Sophie to eat the dang pill, it works great. If you are looking to kill ticks, it doesn't kill them though. We quit using Advantix because she has dry skin and the vet said the oils in the skin is how the medicine distributes over the body. So he recommended Comfortis.

Good to know, I was just thinking about other options. Does anyone know how long it takes for the Frontline to dry (so it is no longer a worry)? Is it a few hours or a full 24?

Out vet says it is 24 hours. We don't let them in water though for 48 hours. The manufacturer says it dries in 24 hours.
what you should do is "open" his furs and put it on the skin. Just put a little at a time, rub in. (I use disposable latex gloves)
Then keep putting it, rub. Then the excess on the fur....I wipe it off gently w/a paper towel. Dispose of gloves & paper towel.
If you put it on his neck, it may rub off on his collar. I put between Zoe's shoulder blades, and haven't had issues.
glad he seems okay. : )
