I have been very interested in becoming a vetranarian when I grow up. I have always loved helping animals and my mom siad I would be the one who would go for a walk and come back with some kind of animal. One time I found a litter of puppies and there mom. I have cleaned cages at our vet and even got to see how they do a check up on a dog(it was Tank, lol). Anyway what classes do you say I need to take in high school? Do you have to be really good in math? What about college. What classes do I take then? How many years is it? I would do ok as an assistant better then an actual vet. I already vollunteer at the human society. DO you think if I vollunteer at a vet office more it would help?
Thanx,

Great that you are thinking ahead already. I´m not a vet but my best friend is a vet. In general what you need to learn a lot in high school if you want to become a vet would be Biology, Chemistry and Anatomy.
In college, I used to have girl friend who was studying to become a vet. From what I remember she first had to undergo 3 years of a basic undergrad minor in something like biology, and then specifically you get a major in Veterinary Sciences , which was 4 more years. But this varies in every country.
Here´s a link to Texas A&M´s Veterinary School web page in case you are interested in learning a bit more.

Bad choice of words girl.Try something like, when I leave school or when I graduate. From what I've seen of your posts, you're already a hell of a lot more grown up than most of the so called adults I have to put up with in the course of my job.
Don't put yourself down like that.
Do you have someone like a careers counsellor at school who could advise you on the best courses to take?

Thankxs, Black and yellow that was a great link. Garth I didn't know the correct term to use so I just said grown up but graduate seems better. Also i am going to stay 5" 2 for the rest of my life so maybe if i say grow up more often I will get taller.

I am not a vet, nor do I play one on t.v. (does that date me?????). But, becoming a GOOD vet is hard work. Being outstanding in math, biology and anatomy is essential. Since you are young, volunteer at a vet's office, humane society, and anything animal related, and keep track of what you do! The more extensive your extra curricular activities (in addition to superior grades) are when you apply to vet school the better. As Labby/Laura says, some vet had to be at the bottom of their class at graduation...do not be that person! Get as much experience as you can, and by the time you need to make decisions, you will know what you need to do! Good Luck!
