Rubi comes home - day 1 recap
So I thought it'd be fun to recap Rubi's first day at her new home.
The drive to pick her up was just over an hour. We saw pictures of her parents, signed some paperwork, and took our puppy for the long ride home. She handled the drive like a veteran, sleeping through most of it. We decided to take her straight to our vet to get her second set of shots and do a quick check-up. The wait was just about 20 minutes, so I decided to take her outside and see if she'd take care of business. She did not, but she did jump, run, roll, and frolic all over the place. Once we got called into the exam room, Rubi was placed on a scale to be weighed and immediately fell asleep.
Our vet talked to us about the breed for about 40 minutes, then gave her 2 shots (which did wake her up, but just for a moment. No whimpering, no biting - just a quick look) followed by a small spoonful of peanut butter, which she inhaled like a true Lab.
We then took her home where she finally peed in the backyard - to much fanfare from us, and then made another trip to the suburbs to visit my parents. There she had tons of fun with Tavi, a 4 year old female Boxer, ate her first meal at home, did proper business outside, and amazed all of us with her ability to fall asleep at a moment's notice, no matter the sleeping surface.
All in all, it was a busy and adventure-filled first day. No accidents, no crying or whimpering (even at night), just lots of carefree play.
Rubi and I woke up together at about 5:40 this morning, went outside where she immediately emptied her bladder, and played some "run, hop, fall over." She then had her breakfast and has been sleeping it off since. Whew!
"Wink wink"
