I didn't want to hijack the thread, but I was wondering how many did some level of research before bringing their dog home? I'd bet everything I have that the vast majority of those Craig's List folks never carefully considered what having a dog would mean. I know I did research for nearly 6 months before I finally decided I wanted to get a dog. No need for figuring out what breed because I always knew I wanted a Lab.
The only thing I was a little surprised about was just how deeply you get attached to them. I knew I would, but didn't realize how much and how deep it would go. But that was a good thing! But no surprises with training, puppy foolishness, cost, time requirements, etc. And I wouldn't trade a minute of it for all the money in the world. I will never understand folks who think having a dog, or any other animal, is just for looks and never spend time with them and such. Can;t be much fun for the dog.
Some people are so impulsive and to them an animal is disposable. Awww a cute puppy or kitten for Christmas but 6 months later, the litter box stinks too much or that cute pup has grown out of the sweet puppy stage. For that reason, I really hate people who are so indifferent to living beings. How could you do that to a living, breathing animal who depends on you for their everything. You become home and family to them, then when the mood suits, you get rid of them for STUPID reasons. Sorry Guy you got me going.
I had been wanting a dog for a long time.. I had a dog when I was younger and cats for my entire life. I was going to college and living at home with my parents, but I went to the shelter and got miss Abbey, almost impulsively, but once I met her and played with her, I knew I couldn't leave her there. I was instantly attached to her sad puppy eyes and wiggle butt.
Kolby, the new dog, was a rescue. I found him on Petfinder a couple months ago and was in contact with the foster mom for weeks while we waited out his heartworm treatments, neuter, etc.![]()
