Is there a point beyond which an average person can lose no more weight??
I'm stuck!! I need to drop three more friggin' pounds to reach my goal of 185. And I can't BUDGE off 188. I'm working w/thedailyplate.com to track cals/carbs/exercise. I'm burning EVERY DAY, thanks to a couple of brisk walks and either a 2mi run or a 7mi bike ride.
And I cannot get rid of those last three pounds!!!!!
Have I maxed out? I've logged 188 for four weeks in a row! Wah!
All you need is one good bout of gastroenteritis and all your problems will be solved! Of course, you will have to spend a couple days pinwheeling....Originally Posted by dweck
In all seriousness, though, if it's been 4 weeks that might be your natural set point. If you really, really, really want to lose more, start running more, or rowing. Maybe start training for a 10k?

I was just reading about a guy who dropped a ton of weight and prepped himself to compete in his first 5k. It **might** be something I could consider, Eventually. By, perhaps, the next millennium.... How many miles is 5k??
What's weird about the last three pounds issue is that the majority of the 60+ lbs I lost just peeled off. And then I plateaued at 196. I've been able to get that down to 188, but it's been slow. Much slower than the initial plummet. And once I reached 188, everthing just.... stopped.
I'm feeling great and happy to get the cardio workouts for a healthier heart. But I'd sure like to be 185 as originally planned.
You're a lot closer to a 5k than you think. It's only about 3miles (I think it's 3.1, to be exact). A 10k is only about 6miles.Originally Posted by dweck
I know what you mean about the last few pounds. It took me about a year (the entire length of my engagement) to lose about 25lbs. While it was actually a pretty quick weight loss, considering I only weighed about 140 to begin with, the first 20 came off like water, the last five took FOREVER.
Then I got pregnant 3 weeks into our marriage and gained 39lbs! Towards the end I wanted to cry when I would get weighed at the doc's office. My favorite nurse always started the scale at the 100lb notch, instead of the 125 (even though she always had to adjust it to make up for my girth). I loved her.

I run at least 1.5 miles 3x a week, alternating w/a 7mi bike ride. When I'm feeling REALLY ambitious, I'll run another 1.5 after dark. So... hmmmmmmmmmmmmm......................Originally Posted by MSUlady
Train for something Dan. It will be a great way to get past your plateau and give you something to focus on other than those 3 lbs.

185 is just a number in your head that you see as a goal. Think about how much better you feel and look now. Will three more pounds make that much of a difference? Maybe if you stop concentrating on the numbers and work on something else, like running or lifting, you will find that the weight goes without your noticing (more muscle = more calories burned)
Personal experience - I was told my whole life by my parents that I should weigh 165 and I could never get there. (I'm 5' 11"). When I was really sick and not eating I saw 165 and I didn't like it. I was waaaaay too thin. Now I'll be happy to get down to your weight again.
