LO CARB!!!!
- Almonds
- Beef Jerky
- Pistachios
- Lo-fat Cheese
- Fish (tuna etc.)
- Chicken
- Beef
- Veggies (provided they're not 'sweet' like corn or peas/carrots)
Also -- Make sure that the carbs you DO eat are bulky with fibre. So if you're having pasta, make it wheat pasta. If you must have bread, go with multigrain (and read the lables and check the carb #s, because some of these that are advertised as healthy are actually ridiculous). Rather than even go-there with bread, I'm into wraps. Tortilla wraps come in a bunch of flavors (again, check labels for carb counts) and make an enjoyable lunch (spreadable cheese + sliced roast beef. Or chicken/peppers/provolone cheese, zapped in the micro for a bit. Or grilled ala a panini, etc. etc.).
EAT SIX TIMES PER DAY. Three meals. Three snacks. Don't skip. But measure your portions.
ANDDDDDD - EXERCISE!!!!!! Get that heartrate pumping at least 1x per day (easy to do w/a Lab!).
Yes, this. And no refined sugar. It is rough (especially at first), but it really works.Originally Posted by dweck

I am the type that has to have my sweets. So, I've been counting calories. I'm eating everything I did before, but instead of cake and ice cream after lunch, dinner and at bedtime, I just have it at dinner. Logging every bite of food helped me to see how much I was eating between meals. Measuring everything helped me to learn what a true portion is. A 1/2 cup of ice cream sure looked different to what I scooped into the cereal bowl! This has been a bad week for me. We had our anniversary party, daughter in-law birthday, and this Saturday will be my granddaughters birthday. I got off track and today started back in.
I hope you find something that works for you. What ever it is, it has to be a life long change.

Calorie counting and exercise worked well for me. First, I figured out how many calories I needed for my BMR, and how many calories I needed daily (1700):

Then I started planning my meals ahead of time, instead of eating on the go, calculating caloric content of foods to not exceed my daily caloric need. I cut out white flour and only ate whole grain, and ate a lot more vegetables and less animal products. Here's a website with nutritional info on various foods. You can search for the food you want to know about.

I also integrated 30-45 minutes of sustained aerobic exercise three days per week (keeping heart rate at target for 30-45 minutes; target HR for me is 109-163).

I lost 20lb.
thanks for the tips!
I found this awesome website that might help me track my intake. It shows in a pie chart the amount of carbs, fats and proteins. It also show how many calories are left for the day after you enter what you enter what you have eaten.

allow yourself 1 sweet a day-- those 100 cals packs work great for this. Find the time you need it the most![]()
I've done the low carbs too, works great! I just have to get back on it though.
I have to disagree with Dweck. You have to find what works for you...and I eat everythig I want...just in controlled proportions. I lost 100 lbs in a year using weight watchers, and never eliminated or cut out anything.
