Part of my health insurance requires that you be a certain BMI and I have to commit to a weight loss plan or my insurance sky rockets. I've agreed to try WW - there is a place right across the street from my house and I have a coworker who is already on it, so we would do it together and go to the weekly meetings together.
I was running 2-3 miles every other day, but it really took a toll on my back and knees, so I had to stop. I've been walking about the same distance with the dogs every other day and on the off days I still do at least a mile or so. It's such nice weather that I feel bad if I'm not out there enjoying it!
So I'm just curious for those of you who have tried it - what were your results? Pros and cons?
Thanks![]()

I've never tried WW, but my Mom did and lost about 50 lbs on it. I tried Nutri System, but it's VERY expensive and the food is disgusting. It does work though. I learned from that plan to count my calories and what works for me is frozen diet meals (Lean Cuisines, Healthy Choice, Lean Pockets, etc). Whatever brand is on sale, I stock up and eat those for breakfast and lunch and then try not to pig out at dinner. I lost 30 lbs doing that and have kept it off for about 2 years. I used to run, but it really is terrible on the knees; fast walking is much better for you. Thats great that you have someone to help, it makes a big difference. Good Luck!
I just started myself, its all new to me so we will see. I have seen a lot of friends do really well with it but just like any wt. loss program once they stop all the weight comes back. Its not only the getting it off, but from what I have seen with myself and friends its the keeping it off that is actually the hardest part of all![]()

Did it, lost 30 lbs., no cons at all, just when you stop doing it, the weight comes back![]()
I have tried it twice before and I just started back on it...the first time, I got easily discouraged when I went to the meeting and everyone was losing 2-5 pounds and I was losing .2 pounds...I lost about 10 pounds, dropped out and gained the weight back...second time was last fall...I was doing really well on it - averaging about 5 pounds a month (not great, not terrible)...I was keeping the journal, counting the points, but not attending any meetings...I lost almost 20 pounds, then my personal life fell apart and I dropped it...(I was sick and having a million and one tests, my father got really sick and died, my relationship started to fall apart and ended up ending and my business was in the toilet)...long story short, I gained ALL the weight back and then some! I was the fattest I have ever been as of a few weeks ago...I had been thinking about trying it again, but something was just not clicking for me...ironically, I was getting rid of a bunch of books and my neighbors asked if they could throw some in with mine...in the midst of all the books, one of my neighbors included a BRAND NEW set of ww books and a never used journal! I called and asked if she meant to toss it and she said yes! I figured that was my sign! I pulled the books out, dusted off my gym card and started again last week. It is too soon to say how I am doing, but I am excited and feeling motivated! I am not doing the meetings, as they were not good for me in the past, but I think it is important to go to one or two just so you know how the program works. The thing I like most about weight watchers is that it is not a diet, it is a lifestyle...you can still eat WHATEVER you want - you just have to eat it in moderation and when you splurge one day, cut back another...if you fall off the wagon one day, it is easy to recover...it really is a great program...while I have failed in the past, it isn't because the program was hard to follow or restrictive, it was because taking care of myself was not a priority to me. It is now and I am hoping within a few months to start feeling better and looking better!
I have been on it for 2 months and have lost 15 pounds. It has been surprisingly easy. I kind of look at it as a game (orgainizing my points throughout the day). I have found that I feel much better since I am eating healthier foods. I have a couple of weight watcher cookbooks and have used those to keep from getting bored. There is a new "Momentum" one that has 200 recepies in it and they are very good. There is also an older one called "Comfort Foods" that is excellent. The great thing is that my family is eating the food I eat and they like it. It really does teach you to eat right.
Give it a try. It is usually very difficult for me to lose wieght and I have even tried Jenny Craig. That was major dollars down the drain! My doctor suggested that I try WW in order to lose the 25 pounds I have been hauling around. So far so good. I even had to cut my blood pressure medicine in half and the Dr. said I may be able to go off of it soon.
It all depends on the person. I did it for awhile. It does help. I prefer counting points versus calories. But now that Ive been on it for awhile and money is tight, I quit the program. Im just making sure my calories are low (not eatting a bunch of crap) and that I excersise every day. Lots of excersise and low calories. Thats the key. Weight Watchers is a very good program to get started with.
I don't like that. Never tried WW or any other program. Good luck to you.Part of my health insurance requires that you be a certain BMI and I have to commit to a weight loss plan or my insurance sky rockets
