Just got back from our vet and it seems that is some cases the thyroid can cause a color change. Although his doctor said usually it is in patches and at the tips i.e. ears and such not in the defined area that Aubrey is changing. She also said stress can do that too but the boy doesn't seem stressed to me. So she is checking his thyroid just to be on the safe side for me. I guess in a couple of days we will find out for sure when the results are back.
I did a search here and on line but was unable to come up with much as Aubrey hasn't been shaved or taking meds. Yes he lies in the sun but he has for years and his coat hasn't changed until this year actually within the month. He is a black cat but when you comb him it is gray and now his fur is changing to auburn on his head and shoulders. Any ideas? He will go in for his annual in a couple of weeks. Here is a picture of him - it might just be the sun bleaching him out just kinda odd though. I have a friend sending me info she found concerning cats and sunburn when in front of the window too much.

I have never heard of a cat changing colors. But Romey is really dark. But when you turn him upside down he looks brown..Maybe it is the sun. I am curious now too.
