    Default Suggestions needed for cat

I have three cats. 6,5,and 4. For some reason one of them keeps going potty on my bathroom floor. Some friends suggested they are jealouse of the puppy. How can I stop them. I am afraid if I shut the bathroom door they will pick another place to go, like on my furniture. Atleast in the bathroom its easy to pick up. They have never done this before.

The reason I say they. I havent figured out who it is yet.

Anyone else have this issue. How did you stop it?

I am not an expert . . . just an opinionated cat lover.

I wouldn't suspect jealousy of your puppy.
Does Mambo ever get access to the litter box?
Cats are notoriously private in all matters connected with their potty habits and usually react in a very negative way at even an innocent puppy's curious nose sniffing their box.

When my cats stop using their litterbox, I always suspect dissatisfaction with the litterbox conditions.
They might have developed a dislike of the litter.
Or the location of the box -
Or the number of times it gets cleaned each day -
Even if they've been satisfied with all the above for years.

One of them might have developed a medical condition, & only a vet could confirm that.

Thanks. Mambo does not have access to the litter box. The kitties have their own room just for them. Cat litter is cleaned daily. Maybe a reaction to the litter.

One thing I didnt think about is we did just get a new litter box. It has the plastic flap on the door. The last one never did. But I see them going in and out so I wouldn't have thought they would mind.

I don't know. I guess I will just have to 1) Figure out who it is. 2) See if they have and medical issues I dont know about.

Thanks for the suggestions on why.

When my cat started going outside the box I thought it was because the litter wasn't clean enough then I thought she didn't like the litter. She really had a UTI. The vet said a lot of times when a cat gets a UTI they stop going in the litter box because they associate the pain of going with the litter box. Hope it's just because they don't like the new box. Do they all share one?

Yes, they all share one. But its cleaned constantly. I tried buying two, but they all would still use one. Wierd. I guess I need to figure out which one, and take to vet. How the heck am I going to know.

Maybe I will let one stay out all night and lock up the other two. Than rotate it. But they hate to be seperated, even though they hate each other.

You might try taking the door flap off and see if that helps.
My new cat, Jazz, has a covered box. He runs freely in and out but when he's in the pooping or peeing position he always has his head hanging out the door. And now that I think back on it, my last cat did the same thing. Maybe he thinks he'll be caught in a compromising/defenseless position. LOL* Cats can sure develop some strange potty rituals.* :

When we had a covered box, my cats would also stick their heads out of the door area. I would really try taking the door off and see if that helps before making a visit to the vet.

I did take the door off and have not noticed any issues. Hopefully it will stay that way.

Midwestgirl...I would be ready to strangle the kitty. Some cats are just like that.

Have you scrubbed the area really, really well with enzyme cleaner? She may have decided that this is the "correct" spot.

Or maybe it's a territorial thing. I've heard some people recommend that when you have litterbox problems, you should increase the number of boxes, even if you keep them immaculate. The recommendation I've read is 1 for each cat (or even 1 for each cat + 1 more).
