OK- how do I get rid of it? She isn't using the litter box like she should (it's clean) and now my house stinks. She pees in the hallway on the carpet. It's brand new.... I never had a kitty till last year,(doggy person) she is about six, they were going to put her to sleep because her owner died (story I was given) so I took her, but now I am at the end of my rope. She cannot be an outside cat, as she's declawed..... it would be a death sentence. She is the sweetest girl, sleeps with me and Forrest, but I just can't take the smell anymore. Help!!

Take her in to the vet for a UTI Check. If that comes back negative, and her kidneys are fine, change the cat box, box litter everything. Carpet is tough to get the odor out of. Try natures Miracle, there are a couple of other products on the market, ad the pros use a carbon dioxide chem dry cleaning solution
We just went through this with our male cat. He wasnt using the box and we took him to the vet. Sure enough, he has a UTI and the vet said what happens is they associate the box with pain so they wont use it. He is now on 2 anti biotics and i see improvement already. In 3 days he is not peeing as much. Only once in the last 2 days. So there is hope!!!!!
They also said some cats like 1 box for pee and 1 for poops. Maybe give that a try after the vet checks her for UTIs.
