My son and husband are at the vet now with our 1 1/2 yr old male cat.
I was cleaning this morning and smelled urine. Neither of the dogs ever have accidents and the cat uses the little box. I could not for the life of me figure this out! Where did it come from? Then I was even more alarmed when I saw it was bloody urine. Now I am in panic mode! Who is sick!!!?
I didnt know what to do except take the dogs out and make them go in a place where I could see it. So here is crazy me spreading paper towels down to make them pee on them. They thought I as crazy!
As I am bringing them back inside, no one peed, I see the cat on the tile floor of the laundry room, peeing and it was really bloody this time. He didnt use the box!
Quick called the vet and got him in for tonight. My vets so great. Stayed late on a Friday just to see him.
So, I'm sure it's a UTI but is this serious? How serious? Will he have to stay?
What do you think they will do- anti biotics or keep him overnight?
What can I do to prevent him getting anymore in the future. And will be stop going on the floors when he feels better?
Why would he pee on the floor and not the litter box? Actually, I am glad he did not use the box, I wouldnt have known anything was wrong.
Also, should we keep him in until this clears up? He usually goes in our yard for a few hours a day to sun himself.
My poor son is scared to death, This is HIS cat and he is crazy about him.
Thanks for any help.

Cats are funny abuot the litter box, if it hurts to use it, they blame the box, not the UTI and won't use the box. So in this case it's a good thing as not using the box lets you see the problem quicker. Sometimes the dust from the litter box gets in the urether and irritates it causeing the infection. Check with your vet, but they may have some suggestions on litter alternatives until it clears up. And yes, with a clean box and free of the infection he should go back to using the box apprpriately.
Wow youre GOOD!
The vet said the same exact thing. That what has happened, is that the cat has associated the pain with peeing, with the box.
He has been going in the same place. Near the exercise machine in the family room, so she recommended placing another box there with some pads rather than litter. Like the pads that are used for older people in bed? Blue pads...
Also the bill was 122$ lol...holy heck...
They gave him a shot of antibiotics, a shot of steroids to speed up his metabolism so the meds would help, quicker, and a liquid for us to give him at home, and pills.
Bactrix? I think was the name.
I'm just they didnt have to keep him overnight or anything and want the peeing to STOP!!!!
Thanks for what you wrote. I appreciate it a lot.

How is he now?
we thought it cleared up and it had...no blood in the urine and he seemed better. We added an extra litter box to where he was going and found he used it!
Marvelous great...
DH just noticed some blood in his urine again. The medicine was JUST all used up recently....so now it's back to the vet I suppose...sigh.
And the transmission on his truck also went today. Estimates are 1500$ to fix that.
When it rains....
