I have 2 females and one gorgeous Russian Blue medium hair male named Smokey. Smokey came home from the pound with "cat flu" I nursed him through it, but he was left with a permanent sinus infection which will never go away. He is on a daily dose of antibiotics for the rest of his life. So at this point he is already costing me a fortune, but this is not the problem. Smokey is litterbox challenged. He refuses to urinate on litter!!! We have a litterbox on the upper floor with disposable pads lining the pan. (the kind of pad you use on a bed for someone with senior leakage problems). It took me 2 years to figure that one out. He was peeing next to the litter boxes, the shit! And on piles of laundry, towels, etc. Now that he has his "pee pad box" he is good with the urine, but he poops ALL OVER! He refuses to use the litter box unless it is meticulous. With 3 cats, it's hard to keep them cleaned at all times. I keep 3 litter boxes in the basement. Plus the "pee pad box" upstairs. SU is talking about having Smokey PTS because of this. Anyone else have a cat with goofy litterbox habits? Any solutions?
My local shelter suggests one more box than you have cats, and also notes that many cats like to have a box to pee in and one to poop in. Maybe Smokey needs a poop box of his own as well as a pee box?

Oh yeah!! My guys are freaks!! I read somewhere that you need 1.5 boxes per cat. And mine DID do the "one for pee, one for poop" thing. It was really weird.
I'd try getting a couple extra boxes and see what happens.
Hmm, I don't know, I think I would try Smokey on his very own pee box and very own poop box. Then if that doesn't work, make him wear pants?
I can't really relate cause lil Miss Cleo perfect cat, does her business on the human toilet. My only complaint is that she doesn't flush, but heck, I can live with that.
Or maybe give him a box of real dirt.

My grandmother's cats poop in her bathroom sinks. It is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO gross!!!!! I clean up my dog's shit everyday from where they leave presents in the house, but it seems like cat stuff is so much worse. I was gagging like crazy when I saw the poo in the sink!
Karina, that's awesome your cat goes in the toilet! My mom tried to teach hers to do that but couldn't do it.
Hope you've found a solution that works, Gail.
