We were at Petsmart this weekend and they had about a dozen or more kittens. They were SO cute. I would have loved to take one home. But I have absolutely no idea how Otis would react. We've not had good experiences with him around other dogs, so I don't know.
Then early this morning, there was a horrible cat commotion sound coming through our window. My first thought was "I wonder if cats make a lot of noise during birth - I hope there's one having kittens in my bushes."
I think I want a kitty cat.![]()
You can have both of mine... :P
You know....my Sammi doesn't do well with other dogs but she totally ignores our cats. Cats don't even phase her. She'll be interested in a new cat at first and want to sniff a lot and even test the waters by initiating some play, but she's been swatted enough times now that she doesn't even bother with them....lol. Cats are pretty darn good at holding their own with dogs.
Do you have a friend with a cat, who is comfortable around dogs? Maybe you could bring Otis over (in a controlled environment) and have him check out the kitty?
Your vet can probably cat test Otis, and he might surprise you with how well he does.
Our vet cat tested Ruffy before we brought Pillage & Plunder home.* *
She was initially opposed to our keeping Ruffy.
"I thought you wanted cats!"*
"We do, but we want this dog, too."*
"He'll EAT cats!* You can't keep him unless you let me cat test him."
"OK!"
I explained the importance of the test to him in the car on the way to her office.* She's got 3 office cats who have seen Everything, have no problem with dogs, are friendly and inquisitive.* We removed Ruffy's leash & let him go.
Much to her surprise and my delight, Ruffy immediately started making friends.* It's one of the things he does best, and he passed with flying colors.
A couple of months later Pillage & Plunder were born, and we were at the top of her referral list to adopt them.
I bet Otis would be a great friend to a kitten . . .*
Pillage & Plunder... ;D great names!

Haley chases our cat, but since she won't go up our steps Mr Lou (cat) has a safe haven. I think it helps although he does torment her alot. And there are times when the dog gets him pretty good. I think if you are are considering a kitty you need to have an area where it can safely retreat for the dog and feel safe.
Both of mine love kittens !
They walk around Gorse the rescue cat cos' he's not scared of nuttin !

I have 3 cats and Miller is terrified of all black Phoebe. One day Miller was at the end of the upstairs hall and Phoebe was between him and the stairs. I called Miller and he just sat there whimpering because he dare not cross Phoebe's path. LOL Phoebe is front declawed, but she is such a terror, she knows how to use her back claws if you piss her off.
