I love cats, but love dogs more, and Maggie is a cat-hating dog so no kitties for me!
Oh, I see. That makes more sense. (My skim reading isn't the best.)

It's taken a while, but Jack and my cat live in harmony (ish) now, no more chasing. (Ish.)

Just tonight I saw a little cat outside and I felt so bad for it. It was 20 degrees fahrenheit, we have snow and ice on the ground, they salt our roads, which is very harsh for their paws. I was so upset.

I've read the average life span for an outside cat is 3 years.

Right... just to confirm, I am talking about cats with cat doors or people who let them in and out. My cat has the cat door, and I should mention it doesn't get cold enough to snow here. She's 10, and here it's pretty normal for them to be allowed outside but we all seem to expect them to live for about 15 years, so I don't know about that life expectancy fact.

Our one and only cat was an indoor/outdoor cat, as she got older she was mostly indoors. Her choice, she lived until she was 18. I'm not a cat fan in the least but I loved and still miss our Torrie I do get tired of finding all the neighbors cat poop in my garden, its not their litter box for cripes sake!

    One tuckered pooch!

Politicians and diapers should be changed frequently and all for the same reason.

Growing up our cats were always indoor/outdoor, and we lost more that one to a game of car vs cat on the road My cats as an adult in my home are strictly indoors. My parents have 2 cats, one is indoor/outdoor and one is indoor only. She has to delicate of personality to survive the streets

I hope this thread isn't too old to post my reply.

I have had cats all my life and growing up I helped my grandmother who was a breeder and would also show cats, too. Her cats never went outside of course.

But most of my cats were indoor/outdoor, even one who was declawed. That cat would climb trees with no problem. That was when I lived in BFE (bum fuck Egypt, in the middle of nowhere). Where I live now I do not let my cats out. I have two 14 year olds who have never been outside but enjoy watching out the window.
