    Default Spay/nueter

What si the best age to Spay your kitten? I have heard 5 months six months a year. I was wondering if anyone knew? We need to get our cats fixed but want to do it when it is the right time. My kittens are only 10-11 weeks oldso I am not in a big rush but just curious.

I'm not sure Deidra, but I do know you want to get them done before they go into heat. Little Cat was a "mature" spay as she'd gone through a few cycles before we got her spayed. We only have female cats and were quoted $300-$500 for a spay which we didn't have. The procedure is slightly more expensive and complicated after they've had one cycle.

PS Love your sig picture. It's so true!

technically they can be done as young as 8wks but it varies on who you ask when is the "best" time to do it. If they have already had a heat cycle it is more to spay females. If they are currently in heat when you go for the surgery, its even more. And if by chance they are pregnant when they go in, it even more. If they go outside you might want to get this done asap. Kittens can get pregnant as young as 5 months old! I dont know about where you live but I am in Norfolk Va which is the PETA headquarters and you can get a cat spayed for like $40

Thanks, when we went to the vet last time they said it will be around 60$ to get a male fixed and 80 for a female. The kittens are inside till they are a year old. When we are outside they sometimes go with us but we are whatching them.

The humane society sometimes does it cheaper. I know of one that has a sliding scale, meaning you pay based on how much money you make and how many people are in your family. You might want to check that out to see if it would be less expensive.

This might be a little off topic, but what are the pros and cons to neuturing your dog. I have an 11 month and I have not neutuered him. Should I or shouldn't I? He is such a sweetheart now

There re good reason to neutuer your dog. 1.It saves mroe dogs from being in the shelter if he gets out and get's a female pregant. 2. It helps prevent Testiculiar cancers. There are other very good reasons. I would wait untill the dog is 18 months old to have him fixed so the plates have time to form completley. Other people may be able to give you other advice.
